You don’t often hear about the benefits of depression, but there are plenty!
Depression can often feel like a cage of your thoughts. Buried amongst most of these negative thoughts of low-self esteem, lack of worth, and overall punishing analysis are true thoughts about your true feelings. You are unhappy. You know why and maybe you don’t completely know why. It’s important to start having a dialogue with your soul, your mind, and your heart. Instead of letting your thoughts overwhelm you and talk at you, begin journaling them, if not at least for the sake of them taking up so much space. It’s like a room, filled with junk, but you have some important items in there you don’t want to throw away. Let’s start to declutter your mind to get to these gems!
You are so trapped with yourself, it might seem like you don’t know how to do anything right. That’s actually the opposite of what’s happening. There are studies that show that depression allows us to access better attention and analysis of what is happening. We see things better, not necessarily with clarity, but because we are so incredibly present, we have an undeniable ability to ascertain what is transpiring.
We can’t look away!
The best part of depression is the creativity. Oh the creativity that lies in you. You are full of it, whether it be spoken words, a painting, a dance, a view point, the artistry is there. It is incredibly important to access this expression of pain. After all, where would be without the songs that fill us with emotion! Most artists suffer from depression and whether you can channel that into your work or make time for that in your spare time, please I beg of you, just DO IT!
